STEP 1

Build Your 14-Day Kit

•    Water: 1 gallon / person / day for 14 days

•    Food: non-perishable, low-sodium, 14-day supply

•    Medications: 2-week supply of every Rx

•    Battery / crank radio, flashlights, extra batteries

•    Portable power bank or small solar charger (CPAP / oxygen)

•    Cash in small bills — ATMs may be down for days

•    First-aid kit, hand sanitizer, insect repellent

•    Manual can opener, matches, whistle, duct tape

  STORM COUNTDOWN

72 Hours to Landfall

•    72 hrs: Top off vehicle fuel, propane, cash. Refill Rx.

•    48 hrs: Install shutters. Charge devices. Move vehicles to high ground.

•    24 hrs: Fill bathtubs / containers with water. Freeze water bottles.

•    12 hrs: Turn fridge to coldest. Unplug non-essential electronics.

•    At landfall: Stay inside on the leeward side, away from windows.

•    After: Wait for official all-clear. Beware downed lines and flooding.

     
STEP 2

Documents Go-Bag

•    DD-214 (all pages) and military ID

•    VA award letters, disability rating, VA card

•    Driver’s license / passport / birth certificates

•    Home / flood / auto insurance policies

•    Prescription list with dosages and pharmacy contacts

•    Bank / mortgage info; photos of home & serial numbers

•    Store copies in a waterproof pouch + upload to secure cloud

  PROTECT THE HOME FRONT

Home Hardening

•    Install / test storm shutters or pre-cut plywood

•    Trim trees; secure loose outdoor items and propane tanks

•    Photograph and video your property for insurance before the storm

•    Elevate electronics and valuables above potential flood level

•    Test generator outdoors — never run inside or in a garage

     
STEP 3

Health & VA Care Continuity

•    Confirm VA Caribbean HCS has your current phone & address

•    Refill Rx early when a storm is named

•    Ask about a 90-day supply of critical medications

•    Keep cooler + ice packs ready for insulin / refrigerated meds

•    Battery backup for CPAP, oxygen concentrator, dialysis needs

•    Know the nearest special-needs shelter for your island

  NO VETERAN ALONE

Battle-Buddy Check-In

•    Identify 2 veteran neighbors to check on before & after the storm

•    Share phone numbers and an out-of-territory contact person

•    Prioritize older vets, those living alone, and vets with disabilities

•    Report status to VIVA when it is safe to communicate
